 American Robin

The Robin, a member of the thrush family, is one of the most neighborly of birds.  A pair will often build their nest -- a neat cup of mud and grasses -- on a branch of a dooryard tree or on the ledge of a porch.  They hunt confidently for earthworms on the lawn and in the garden, regardless of human activities nearby.  In fact, one particular Robin friend, frequently comes out to meet me when I startup the lawn mower

Robins eat insects as well as worms; and they like fruits, both wild and cultivated.  The phrase "Robin's-egg blue" has special meaning once you've seen their eggs.  Click on each image to enlarge photos.
