Daddy Long Legs

Although Daddy-Long-Legs resemble spiders, they are not.  They are easily recognized by their long legs.  Despite the stilt like legs, they hold their body close to the ground, keeping the middle part of the legs high.  If disturbed, they furiously wave the second pair of legs in the air.

They are also called harvestmen, because the first species to be described were seen in the fall at harvest time.  The second pair of legs is longer than the others, and is used like antennae.  Adults are frequently seen in large gatherings, standing with legs interlaced.  They prey on small insects and feed on soft decaying organic matter.
