Eastern
King Snake Large, 3-6 feet in length. Snake is shiny black with criss-cross patterns of white or yellow. Stomach is checked in black and yellow. Likes to hide under things. Gives off a lot of smelly musk when captured or alarmed. Vibrates tail when captured or alarmed. That can sound like a rattle if it is in dried leaves. Constrictors. Will eat other snakes (including poisonous rattlesnakes and copperheads), small mammals, lizards and frogs. Mates in Spring and lays eggs in mid summer. Young hatch in late summer or early fall.
