Fish - Small Mouth Bass

(Micropterus dolomieu)

Small mouth bass are a bronze-brown to greenish-brown with dark vertical splotches along its sides.  The fish has 9 short spines on the anterior dorsal fin and 13-15 soft rays on the posterior fin.

Small mouth will start spawning when the water temperature reaches 50-70 degrees.  They next along the shore line.  The male guards the eggs and the fry for up to a month.
