Painted Turtle

My friends call me "Fancy." I'm what has been referred to as a "Painted Turtle."  Don't confuse me with Sliders.  They are the ones that were captured, often painted, and sold in Pet Shops.  

I'm between 4 and 9 inches long and have a smooth carapace (upper shell) that is olive to black in color.  All of the members of my family are distinguished by red bars or crescents along the edge of our shell and a yellow plastron or breast plate.
