Spider

There are roughly a hundred thousand kinds of spiders in the world.  They come in all shapes and sizes, and they live anywhere from the bottom of a pond to the highest mountain.  In man's war against the insect world, his staunchest allies are the spider.

The silk strands made by orb spiders are smaller than human hair, lighter than cotton and stronger than steel. Scientists are studying the DNA of spiders, hoping to inject this genetic information into other organisms.  Clothing from this material would last much longer.  The secrets within a simple life form may someday improve our lives in many ways.
